"That's What I Think"
editorials by Dave Parker

Heaven Is My Home!

"This world is not my home. I'm just a passin through." Those words of an old spiritual express my sentiments exactly. I've often said, "Yesterday's not soon enough for the Rapture to occur."

Though some of God's people may feel this way about the return of the Lord, it is vividly obvious that the majority of Christians do not. When one observes the effort, energy and money that is expended on preparation for and living this life, you'd think they plan to be here forever.

Consider how little time people spend preparing themselves for eternity. That's a long time, folks! How long will you live on this planet, 70 -  90 years? Maybe you'll live that long, with good health, God's mercy and a whole lot of His unmerited favor. Maybe you will be gone today, it's possible, you know! That's one thing no one has a guarantee on.

"I've got to make a living!" I can hear the cries. My answer is, "No you don't!" What you do have to do is obey God regarding His plan for your life. Then and only then does anyone find the balance between fulfilling life's responsibilities and preparing for eternity.

No matter what that plan for your life entails, one thing you know up front. We must be knowledgeable in the teachings of "The Written Will of God for Humankind", The Bible. That's at the level of "See Spot Run" to the human experience of a "Spiritually Reborn" person. II Timothy 2:15 reveals a direct command to that effect.

Psalms 119:9,11 is a passage that shows that we need to hide God's Word (His Written Will) in our hearts so that we might not sin against Him. There is no better way to hide it in our hearts than to memorize it.

How much time are you spending feeding your soul, preparing your life for eternity? How much time do you spend feeding your body, that vessel that will soon die and go back to dust. It seems to me that if we will spend as much time preparing our souls for eternity as we spend feeding our bodies, we will probably be pretty well prepared when we meet the Lord. That's what I think!

These editorials will not always be a daily product. However, as I am able I will endeavor to bring to writ my reflections on society.

Have the best day you have ever had and may they get progressively better every day hereafter!
